D2 analyse how travel and tourism organisations are responding to changing trends and factors.
Factors like terrorism, political/civil unrest and health epidemics can be very deterring for tourists when it comes to travel to one of those destinations where these factors are strongly present. Especially if customers are traveling to destinations like Ukraine where currently civil unrests are taking place it's important that they have insurance because they might have difficulties getting to their hotels or places they wanted to visit at the destination. Most people wouldn’t even want to go to a country where protests and demonstrations going on the streets because they are scared of being attacked. Therefore the country is losing visitors so they need to do something in order to attract people because if there are tourists then they will spend their money and strengthen the country's economy. At times like this travel agents will sell packages on a very cheap price to the safe parts of Ukraine because people are deterred of the current factors happening in that country. However, the cheap deal will encourage people to buy the package and go there for a holiday.
The development of technology like the internet had big impacts on the travel and tourism industry too. Customers are able to research destinations and make their own bookings online, either through online bookers such as Expedia and Travelocity, or directly with providers of accommodation, transport and support services in the destination. Travel and tourism
providers have responded to this technological development so that even small- and medium-sized enterprises have their
own websites, e-mail addresses and online booking capabilities, including accepting online debit and credit card payments from around the world.
Recession had a big impact on the business travel environment and the number of business travelers declined as their employers tried to introduce cheaper ways of attending meetings like telephone and web conferencing which saved travelling time and money. Most of the business travelers answered in the surveys and questionnaires that they are seeking for budget airlines and accommodations which still offer them great value with the basic facilities included. Therefore
there are more flight and accommodation providers which are trying their best to compete for business travelers. Budget airlines such as easyJet and Ryan Air have prospered in recent years. They have tapped into a variety of changes, such as increased internet booking and the consequent growth in self-packaging, the related trend of more independent travel.
Many of the business travelers answered in a survey that they would follow travel companies through social networking sites to be informed about special deals and other business travelers' reviews of a specific accommodation or airline because they want to make sure that they are travelling with the most suitable company.
The use of online conferencing and meetings increased too because it helps the businesses to reduce surplus expenses so business travelers started following the new technological trends in order to cut down on travelling costs. It's not just
helping to save the company's money but makes it easier for business travelers to be more prepared and focused because they don't need to travel for long times and get tired.
